The Greater Accra Region has presented three Candidates to contest various positions at the National Delegates Congress of the University of Cape Coast Chapter of the Distance Education Students Association of Ghana (DESAG-UCC).
The National Congress which kicks start from the 2nd to 5th of November 2017 will see and end to a Pearson Led administration which was elected at Wa in November last year.
Currently, the Greater Accra Region is represented by the Women Commissioner at the National Level.
In an interview with EducationGhana.net ,the outgoing Greater Accra Regional President, Nii Romeo ,emphasized, that there was a need to new and intelligent ideas to recover the lost glories of the Association of which he has prepared his candidates to take up the mantle from the current administration.
DESAG-UCC,which hasn’t gotten its public attention will be looking for leaders that can market the brand to reach the Students as well as Ghanaian Populace.
About The Aspirants
1. Owusu Derrick (National Sports Secretary)
OWUSU C.K Derrick, an astute person who believes only not in unity but development through sports as well, has and still holdsvarious leadership positions both at work and church.
Derrick believes in loyalty before royalty.Truth, Honesty and faith are the main principles he thrive on.
He takes each challenge as a platform to enrich myself for the service of mankind
Derrick is an aspirant for the position of National Sports Secretary.
2. Evans Narh Nyrkotey (Financial Secretary)
Evans is an accountant and head of compliance for FMT, a corporate trustee responsible for managing second tier ssf contribution of Ghanaian employees.
His experience in financial management and public accounting puts him in a befitting position to serve DESAG in the capacity of financial secretary.
He has been the nationwide financial secretary of DPTL for two years and the finance secretary for legacy welfare association (welfare association of all staff of legacy group) for a year.
Evans is a member of the district finance committee of his church (church of pentecost) chantan district.
This is just to say that he has been so much involved in managing finances of groups and associations and believes that the transparency and accountability that he exhibited in his previous positions will be a benefit to DESAG if he is elected as financial secretary.
3. Mensah Akosua Lindalin(Vice President)
Mensah Akosua Lindalin is a Level 500 student of the University of Cape Coast (College of Distance Education) offering Bachelor in Management studies and an entrepreneur in bead making and liquid soap.
She believes in teamwork, competence, hardwork, integrity, being voice to the voiceless, firmness ,sticking to her vision,empowering women and offering a selfless service to God and humanity.
As an aspiring vice president, she started being a student leader from level 200 till date.
She was the course representative from 2012 to 2014 and later became the Regional Women Commissioner (WOCOM) 2013/14 in the Greater Accra region at her diploma level.
She is now the course representative of her class from 2016 till date for the degree level.
As a course representative she organised her class and women in her region by empowering them in skills of bead making and organised a seminar on cervical and prostrate cancer.
Apart from school leadership, she has been a youth leader at church and the Head of Department (Pre-school,lower primary and JHS) at her previous work place.
Lindalin wants to see DESAG as an association of UCC grow to an enviable height and bring it closer to all students and other tertiary associations,believing in her experiences,she is fit for the job and position as Vice President
