The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS), commends government through the Ministry of education to put up twenty (20) Technical Institutes across the country.
This initiative would not only increase the number of Technical Institutes in the country but would also help in advancing the technical needs of our country.
Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is absolutely the vehicle to accelerate industrialization in Ghana and therefore should be given a priority. Government made it known that, the one district one factory program will be championed through Technical Universities in the country. This is an indication of government’s commitment to enhancing Technical education in the country. The Technical needs of this country can only be met by investing in Technical and vocational education and training.
The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) wants to entreat government to walk the talk in making Technical and vocational education attractive for students to develop interest in enrolling into these institutions.
The union wants to further entreat government to equip Technical Universities and the existing Technical Institutes across the country to enhance practical work to impact practical knowledge on students to be able to provide jobs for themselves after completion. The Council for Technical and vocational education and training (COTVET) should work assiduously to ensure that these Technical Institutes are up to standard to champion the industrialization agenda of the country.
Conclusively, government should increase the budgetary allocations to Technical Universities and Technical Institutes to effectively equip their laboratories and workshops to enhance the smooth running of these institutions.
The cost of running these Technical institutions is very high and budgetary allocations to these institutions ought to be increased to meet the needs of these institutions.
Long live Ghana
Long live technical education
