Private Schools call on Gov’t to support BECE Candidates with Registration Fees

Private Basic Schools in the Country are calling on government to as a matter of urgency, support the payment of the registration fees of all candidates for the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In a statement issued by the Ga South Private School Heads Association  and signed by  its secretary, Mr. Christian Pupulampu,the Association thanked  the Current government for the free SHS initiative and absorbing of the WAEC registration for public schools.

The headmasters further questioned the exclusion  private school Candidates from the  WEAC registration being absorbed by government.

“Some Ghanaians has a perception that, parents who send their children to private schools are richer than the one of public schools but it’s never true.”the statement lamented.

The secretary of Ga south Private schools heads Association in the Greater Accra region, Mr Christian Pupulampo on behalf of the Association, is suggesting that at least the government should support the private schools with half of the WEAC registration fees.

“The government should not discriminate but rather treat all Ghanaians equal by sharing the national cake according to not according from.” he said.

The secretary indicated proverbially, that “We all don’t ply our trade in the same market so not all of us are privileged to have “fine”parents.”

The headmasters Were aggrieved about the astronomical increment of the registration fee of private schools which is about a 350% increment.

“Why should WAEC and for that matter government increase registration fee for BECE over 350 %, Why?”

The statement exclaimed, that there was a deliberate attempt by government to close down private schools indirectly.

“pupils in public schools are told not to pay any thing. In effect government is telling parents to remove their wards from our schools.” he said.
