The Teaching fraternity has been in high expectations of a possible payment of Salary Arrears in January after was quoted by the Vice Presidency that government had released over GH¢14m to pay Teachers’ outstanding Arrears.
TheJanuary Salary which though came with the annual 11% increment, excluded the payment of salary arrears,EducationGhana.net can confirm.

Meanwhile ,the document released by government in relation to the said GH¢14million was meant for payment of allowances and transfer grants to staff of the Ghana Education Service.
According to a document signed by the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori Atta on January 3,2018,from the Finance Ministry, the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) to pay GH¢14,172,313.23 to the Education Minister to enable him make payment of Transfer Grants and other Allowances in arrears to the staff of the Ghana Education Service for the period January 2013 to December 2016.

The said amount did not include the GH¢50million salary arrears owed teachers.
Earlier in January, the Teacher Unions threatened to go on strike should the salary not hit their accounts by close of the month.
