The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah on Monday launched a partnership agreement between Ghana and Germany called the Partnership for Applied Science Project (PASS).
The launch of the project to place at the Library Conference Room of the Cape Coast Technical University.
The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah launched the Partnership for Applied Sciences (PASS) project between two technical universities in Ghana and three partner institutions in Germany.
The PASS project is a partnership initiative that started in 2016 prior to the conversion of polytechnics into technical universities through the German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD) and the Government of Ghana. Kumasi and the Cape Coast Technical Universities, are two of the eight (8) technical institutions that went to Germany in 2016 to understudy and adopt the Germany model of technical university education.
The two universities won the PASS project which seeks to coach, mentor, build capacities of staff, management and students of the beneficiary institutions to adopt emerging strategies in practical technical education towards industrial transformation.
The German model, that has transformed the industrial sector of the German national economy, has adopted best practices for a period over fifty (50) years and is still considered as the best in the world of technical and vocational education. It is this experience and practice that the partnership initiative will offer to the Ghanaian institutions to position themselves well enough towards industrialisation.
Prof. Yankah was hopeful that partnership initiative will play a key role in Ghana’s education. He recounted attempts by the Ministry of Education to transform technical education.
He said “between March 14-16,2018, we are organizing an international conference on technical and vocational education to chart a new path”.
The program was attended by representatives of the mentoring universities among other dignitaries from academia and industry in Ghana. Hon. Barbara Asher Ayisi (MP), the Deputy Minister of Education responsible for Technical and Vocational Education (TVET), graced the occasion. In a brief remarks, she outlined Government’s intension to develop technical and vocation education in Ghana.
