Technical Universities across the county are to embark on a sit down strike starting from March 2, 2018 for what they have described as “Discrimination against Technical universities in the country“.
In an interview with the Local Union Chairman of the Ho Technical University ,Mr Albert Laurent Sakabutu , the union is not happy about intended amendment to some sections of the act that establishes the Technical university in 2016.

The amendment bill which is currently before Parliament seeks to grant powers to the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) to perform functions which TUTAG argues fall within the purview of the Governing Councils, the Academic Boards and the Principal Officers of Universities in Ghana.
According Mr Sakabutu, TUTAG have serious challenges with some of the proposed amendments which, if not addressed would reduce the Technical Universities which are tertiary institutions to second circle institutions which will be detrimental to the technical university agenda.

Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh He said , the Minister laid the Amendment Bill before Parliament without recourse to prior Stakeholder consultations.
He has called on the President, to withdraw the sections[ 24,27,31 and 42 ] of the bills which they find as detrimental to the smooth running of the Technical Universities.
The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), called on the President Akufo-Addo and the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, in October 2017, to stop the National Council for Tertiary Education’s (NCTE) illegal directives being imposed on the various technical universities.
