Nkwanta North District, one of the less developed districts in the country, has been bedeviled with corruption and misappropriation of public funds at the hands of authorities at the district education office starting from the top to the bottom.
Luck, however, eluded the district Director of Education, Mr. Maxwell Gyambiby-Asong and his district accountant on 25th February, 2018 at the Director General’s office in Accra.
Our sources at the Director General’s office indicate that some leaders of an association and some other unknown individuals in Nkwanta North District had petitioned the office of the Director General over the embezzlement of THREE tranches of capitation grants in Nkwanta North Schools.

Aside the famous extortion of money from applicants in the limited GES recruitment programme, extortion of money from pupils to ostensibly defray a debt at the education office and also illegally taking money from BECE candidates in the district for registration, the panel, constituted by Director General of Education, narrowed the meeting to only Embezzlement of schools’ capitation grants.
After listening to the parties involved in the issue, the panel was totally surprised over the corrupt behaviour Mr. Maxwell Gyambiby-Asong in respect to the allegations levelled against him.

He was, therefore, instantly retired from Ghana Education Service pending full auditing in the district. The District education accountant was also indefinitely suspended from the service until full investigation and auditing works are conducted in the district.
