The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Alicia Rico has advised the youth to take their educational experience at the Senior High School level seriously, since it is the most essential part of transitioning from the classroom to the world of work.
She said it is at this level that the child determines his or her future ambitions and the opportunities available.
Madam Rico commended government for implementing the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and urged parents to take full advantage of it to give their wards the needed future.
She was speaking at the 2018 Education Summit in Accra.
This year’s summit brought together Heads of Senior High Schools and Universities as well as other stakeholders in the education sector to deliberate on ways to bridge the gap between secondary and tertiary education.
A Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, said the Ministry is designing a programme where curriculum at the basic school level will be assessed periodically to improve the education sector at that level.
He said this has become necessary because of the static nature of the quality of teaching and the unpleasant results churned at the end of every academic year.
Dr. Osei Adutwum, also indicated that there are plans to assess teachers and equip them well for the classroom while their performances are monitored.
