JUST IN:Final year Teacher Trainees to write 3 Licensure Exam Papers;MoE justifies GH¢220 fee charged

The Ministry of Education has justified the infamous Gh¢220 fee charged all Final year Teacher trainees as Licensure Examination Fees.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, Vincent Ekow Assafuah ,in an interview with Citifm, an Accra based radio station, there were certain elements that constitute the GH¢220.

He outlines the breakdown of the fees indicating that, every teacher trainee who is going to sit for the exams is going to write three paper.

According to him, each paper cost GH¢60 ,of which the rest of the 70 Ghana cedis was meant for management fees.

“The management means that we need to pay for invigilators, we also need to hire people to mark the papers, and we need to give a provisional certificate.”he said.

Teacher Unions’ Protest

Teacher Unions earlier released a joint pres statement calling on the Education Minister to as a matter of urgency suspend the payment of the fees.

The teachers criticized the National Teaching Council for not involving them in their final decision on the charge of the fees as discussed in their earlier stakeholders meeting.
