The maiden edition of the most celebrated Teachers’ Award shall be hosted at the Department of Economics Hall of the University of Ghana in Accra.
The Award which has been in existence for some years now has been re-branded as the Global Teacher Prize and expected to take place on October 5,2018.
There shall be an Edu-Conference/Seminar on the 3rd and 4th of October there will and exhibition at the Department of Economics Hall, University of Ghana, Legon.
Prizes
The most outstanding teacher takes home a three bedroom house plus five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis endowment fund.
First Runner-up goes with a 4×4 Pickup, Second Runner-up goes with a saloon car.
Background
The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Teaching Council presents Ghana Teacher Prize 2018. The Ministry of Education is committed to recognizing the contributions of hardworking and selfless teachers towards improvement of education in the country throug h Teacher’s Day Celebration.
The National Teacher Awards have been rebranded ‘GHANA TEACHER PRIZE’ with an international standard as the new benchmark.
Objective
The major objective of the scheme is to motivate teachers for higher performance and also restore the respect of the profession . It further aims at retaining qualified teachers and improves their work performance and overall effectiveness in the classroom.
The Prize underlines the importance of the teaching profession and symbolizes the fact that teachers throughout the world deserve to be recognized and celebrated.

THE RIGHT TO QUALITY EDUCATION MEANS THE RIGHT TO A QUALIFIED TEACHER
Eligibility
The Prize is open to current working teachers (both private and public) who teach children that are in compulsory schooling and have been in the profession for a minimum of five years. Teachers on voluntary teaching service are also eligible. The Prize is open to teachers in every school at the pre-tertiary level.
Criteria for selection
The judges will evaluate Applications based on the following criteria:
- Recognition of a teacher’s achievements in the classroom and beyond from pupils, colleagues, head-teachers or members of the wider community.
- Employing innovative and effective instructional practices
- Achieving demonstrable student learning outcomes in the classroom.
- Preparing children to be global citizens in a world where they will encounter people from many different religions, cultures and nationalities.
- Achievements in the community beyond the classroom that provide unique and distinguished models of excellence for the teaching profession and others.
- Encouraging others to join the teaching profession.
