Unconfirmed reports has it that the Three Leading Teacher Unions ,made up of the Ghana National Association of Teacher(GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT-GH) were given an amount of GHC 200,000 each in order to decline their supposed intended decision to embark on a nationwide Strike.
The Leadership were being promised other benefits so as to call off the intended stroke.
The reason for the ‘bribery’ according to teachers ,was to allow government to ‘buy more time’ for the validation process, in order to reduce government’s wage bill as IMF reviews Ghana’s economic status.
The meeting during which the said amount of money was given to the teacher unions was held at the Mensvic Hotel ,and was held between the labour relations minister,Haruna Iddrisu and the Teacher Unions.
The meeting was being held on May 4th 2016 and is expected to continue on Tuesday May 10,2016.
