A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote technical education in the Country, has been signed between the Tamale Polytechnic and the Network for Poverty Alleviation Ghana (NESPAG-Ghana), a non-governmental organization.

The MoU, which will be implemented within a four-year period (2016 – 2019), will see both institutions attempt to address some of the major difficulties Tamale Polytechnic faces in the discharge of its core responsibilities of providing quality and practical technical education to the citizenry.

It is also to remove the erroneous perception about technical education in the country, establish and strengthen institutional collaboration between Tamale Polytechnic and key actors in the industry, encourage entrepreneurship as well as help to minimize some of the difficulties facing the Industrial Art Department of Tamale Polytechnic.Mr Adam Samed, Secretary of NESPAG-Ghana and Professor Abdulai Salifu Asuro, Rector of Tamale Polytechnic signed the document on behalf of their respective institutions in Tamale.

Mr Samed said as part of the MoU, NESPAG-Ghana would organize seminars and symposia for students of Tamale Polytechnic on the relevance of technical education and its related areas in addition to providing financial support to students with unique talents in creative art to start their own business.

He said this would help students to rethink and undertake self-employable projects to earn a living instead of looking up to government for employment in the public sector.

Professor Asuro described the MoU as laudable and in line with the ongoing conversion of polytechnics into Technical Universities adding it would help to promote technical education even beyond the school community to help develop the country.
