The 2017 Female athletes of TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi are the current record holders of four by 200 meters in the girls’ division of the Ashanti Regional Super Zonal Athletics Championship.
They ran 1:48 seconds, at this year’s Ashanti Regional Super Zonals held in Kumasi, to break the 2013 record of 1:42.21 seconds by the same school.
The record of the 4×100 relay and 200 boys’ race was also broken by the same school.
Kumasi T.I AMASS ran the 200 boys’ race in 41.72 seconds, breaking the previous record of 41.90 seconds in 2011 by the same school.
Kwame Adjei of Kumasi T.I. AMASS is the current 1500 meters record holder making the time of 3 mins 55.47 seconds to break the previous record of 3 mins-57.53 seconds registered by Emmanuel Duah of Opoku Ware School in 2012.
This feat, together with other sterling performances by athletes from Kumasi T.I AMASS, crowned the school as the overall winner of the 2017 Ashanti Regional Super Zonal Athletics Competition, making it the only institution to have won this enviable position for an unprecedented nine consecutive times.
The two day program saw athletes from 31 institutions each on the boys’ and girls’ divisions competing in 19 track and field events.
They included 100 meters, 200 meters, relays, high jump, long jump, discuss and pole vault.
This year’s competition has been described as very keen, as potential national athletes were unearthed.
Fatima Samau of Islamic SHS is also the current record holder of the 1500 meters girls race, with record time of 4 mins 37.54 seconds, breaking the previous record of 4 mins 39.8 seconds set by Lydia Ataa Afia of Kumasi Academy in 2013.
Josephine Tchera of Kumasi Wesley Girls SHS has also broken the pole vault girls record set by Ellen Botwe from the same school last year, with a record of 2.43 meters.
The overall best girls’ institution trophy went to Kumasi T.I. AMASS Girls’, recording a total of 130 points, beating Kumasi Wesley Girls High School to the second position with 117 points and Kumasi Girls SHS clinching the third position with 95 points.
Kumasi AMASS was crowned the overall winners in the competition, recording a total of 143 points, beating Prempeh College to the second position with 78 points and Jachie Pramso SHS taking the third position with 66 points.
