Bright Asiedu, a member of St. Thomas Aquinas SHS’ team at the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz, has won a full scholarship to study medicine at the Accra College of Medicine.
The scholarship is part of Accra College of Medicine’s sponsorship of the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ). At the launch of the NSMQ in May 2017, Ms. Prisca Atogsiya, Ag. Director of Administration of Accra College of Medicine (ACM) announced that the College would offer a full scholarship to one of the finalists of the NSMQ who would be interested in studying medicine.
Bright Asiedu, together with his teammate Christopher Anamalia, led his school to the Grand Finale, where St. Thomas Aquinas SHS placed second, two points behind winners, Prempeh College.
He, as well as two other finalists of the 2017 edition of the NSMQ, wrote an entrance exam and subsequently underwent an interview at the Accra College of Medicine, where Bright Asiedu came up tops. This makes him the first contestant of the National Science & Maths Quiz to receive a full scholarship in Ghana.
Prof. Afua Hesse, President of Accra College of Medicine, expressed her College’s excitement about the partnership with Primetime, producers of the National Science & Maths Quiz.
“We are very much a science-oriented institution and we saw the National Science & Maths Quiz as a programme to associate with because it has improved the study of science and maths in Ghana”, Prof Afua Hesse said. “The package we have offers a 100% scholarship to cover all six years of the medical training to one of the finalists.”
