The President has asked religious bodies to shift focus from establishing tertiary institutions to early childhood development, to instill the needed values in young ones before they grow up.

Delivering a keynote address at the 8th Biennial General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Accra on Thursday, August 24, Nana Akufo-Addo said there is a need for the Church to reach back to training children to become good men and women for the country.

He observed the shift of the Church’s attention from the development of basic education to putting up Universities is gradually impacting negatively on the moral fabric of society. The critical foundation and time in early childhood development where discipline and patriotism must be inculcated are being missed.

Nana Akufo-Addo recalled his early days when it was an issue of pride to be a product of a mission school. “But those values are no more existing, the church must have to go back and train good men and women for the growth of the church and the country” he said.

The President noted the impact of a church cannot be measured by its congregation but how high the members adhere to the teaching of the faith and society. He therefore challenged Christians to carry along with them to work and every facet of their lives, the discipline and responsibility as required of them by the Lord.

He also called on the church to pray for his government to be able to deliver on the promises made to the people of Ghana.
