Subah Info Solutions has awarded scholarships to 15 National Service personnel of the Urban Sanitation Module (USM) under the National Waste Bin Distribution (NaWaBin) for their hard work.

The 15 were part of 92 personnel selected from the 2015/2016 year group.

All National Service personnel received tablets, various cash amounts and other prizes.

The distinguished 15 winners will be fully sponsored by Subah to India and The Netherlands for further studies at a cost of not less than $15,000 for each student.

The objective of the programme is to develop data sharing and data security policy to ensure the continued integrity of the platform and establish the governance structure required to optimise the benefits from geospatial resources.

It was also to develop collaborations with the geospatial community of Ghana to foster integration and seamless harmonization of existing geospatial infrastructure whilst defining strategies for quality spatial data discovery, timely access and use to prevent duplication of data collection, updating and investments, to develop strategy for the promotion and awareness of the platform and incorporate the platform into a broader global SDI system.

Mr Birendra Sasmal, Chief Executive Officer of Subah, said the students will partake in courses such as Geo-technology, Soft and Hardware Management and Spatial Data Management.

He said the sponsorship which would be an annual affair is to encourage the youth to go into the learning of technology.

Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, said National Service Personnel who proved to be excellent ought to be supported and lifted for success.

He said Suba is partnering with GENESIS, an Indian company, and the beneficiaries would work to improve on their skills whilst schooling more so the company is supporting Subah with $3 million every year for their operations.

Dr Kpesah Whyte, Executive Director of the NSS, said the scheme is a programme of national responsibility and that institutions must emulate Subah to support service personnel in learning.

Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, said his outfit led Town and Country Planning Department to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Subah to use the data collected for good planning.

The National Waste Bin Distribution Programme is a nationwide private financing and technical initiative between Melchia Investment Ghana Limited, a Ghanaian firm and the National Service Scheme of Ghana.

The programme which commenced in June 2015 was to develop a Geospatial platform with an integrated waste bin distribution and collection database system to optimise waste bin distribution and collection.

This effort has evolved further – building on previous government’s initiatives such as the Ghana Street Naming Exercise, to expand Ghana’s digital geospatial footprint to facilitate public and private sector decision making, retrieval and updating of information, revenue mobilization enhancement and development controls

These and many other unique attributes place FOSCO in a pedigree that makes it ‘first among equals’

The Ghana  National Association of Teachers will in November  give pen drives and other souvenirs to members as end of year packages ,EducationGhana.net can confirm.

Each member of the Association will be receiving a very well packaged diary with added features,a souvenir of dual purpose(pen/pen drives) and a calendar.Meanwhile, only dues paying members will benefit from the package.

The giving out of end of year packages became popular and very competitive after the Coalition of Concerned Teachers started giving out CINDY RICE to its members as end of year packages.

Though many described their earlier packages as a way of getting more members, others also  saw it as creating competition and this really put other associations on their toes to start giving out end of year packages.

Though GNAT was known for giving out Calendars and Diaries to its members, the inclusion of other souvenirs started three years ago when members were given a pocket radio in 2014/15 academic year, and a portable table clock in the 2015/16 academic year.

Education is the key to the realization of a better future for children. But for over thousands of disadvantaged children within the Agbogba community of Accra who lack quality education, a better future can only be guaranteed under the African Thriving International, an Ecobank Foundation partnership school project.
Dubbed “The Model School Project” is a GHC 1.4million project which seeks to provide pupils in underprivileged public basic schools with quality education. The project is expected to benefit over 1,000 underprivileged children within Agbogba community in Accra.
Under the first phase of the ultra-modern school model project, Agbogba Anglican Basic School will be the sole beneficiary of a 4 unit KG block with kids’ rest room , a fully resourced 6 unit classroom, a multi-purpose building consisting of the head teacher’s office, staff common room, Library and ICT Centre among others . According to the CEO of Ecobank Foundation, Julie Essiam, the move forms part of the corporate social responsibility of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated and, Atlantic Trust Holdings and Atlantic Holdings of Dubai.
She added four (4) similar schools will be built across the country in various regions including Eastern, Volta, Central and Northern Ghana all at an estimated cost of GHC 7million.
At a ground breaking ceremony and launch of the project at the Agbogba Anglican Basic School in Accra on Monday, September 5, 2016, Chairman of the Atlantic Trust Holdings and Atlantic Holdings of Dubai, Alex Asiedu noted the new model school library will be built to the standards of such schools in US with well- furnished modern gadgets like solar powered laptops with 24-hour internet connectivity among others to enable the pupils gain the same knowledge base compared to the kids living in the US, UK and other developed countries.
He said: “Our commitment to leading a continental and global transformation at all levels of society can only be realized when the youngest citizens of our countries are given better footing through education”. “Our role is to facilitate access to financial and technical support so that public basic schools of developing countries can enjoy quality education programmes and the best strategies to get all children into school and learning” he added.
The headmistress of the Agbogba Anglican Basic School, Joana Brukum welcomed the initiative with glee, pointing out that “The ultra-modern class edifice will change the phase of this school to benefit over thousand pupils currently enrolled in the Agbogba Anglican Schools”. She commended the Ecobank Foundation and the Africa Thriving Int. for responding positively to their cry for help towards solving infrastructure problems of the school.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has also lauded the move referring to it as a great initiative by all standards. “This is a great endeavor that will benefit education in Africa impacting several thousands of children and positioning them to be fruitful citizens when they grow up contributing to Sustainable Development,” he said in a speech for him by Rev. Dr. Chris Koramoah.
The Agbogba Anglican Basic School was established in 1952 by an Anglican Priest known as Father Dean with support from the chiefs, elders and people of Agbogba when he visited the area and spotted some pupils attending school under a tree.

He made this statement at the University of Cape Coast on Thursday night, September 8th during his Central Region tour. ” Don’t pursue a course just because it is available and also a degree is awarded for that particular course” He admonished. This according to the President will go a long way to address the graduate unemployment the nation is battling.

It is Better to Lose on Principle than to Restore Teacher Trainees’ Allowance on Falsehood for Political Gains – President Mahama

$

President John Mahama has emphatically maintained that he will not bow to threat of losing the December polls to restore the teacher trainee allowance.
The allowance was scrapped by government in 2014 in spite of intense opposition and protests from teacher trainees. The government replaced the teacher trainee allowance with a student loan scheme, which it claimed has increased enrollment at the various colleges of education.
The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo says he will succor the situation by restoring the allowance when voted into power. The trainee teachers seem to have bought into the promise of the opposition leader and threatening to vote out the government. But President Mahama appears unperturbed and would therefore not budge to their demands to restore the allowance.
Addressing students of the Cape Coast University on Wednesday,he insisted that the allowance would not be reversed like AKufo-Addo wants to do for “partisan politics purposes”. He said: “For me, better to lose the election on principle than win it on falsehood. And I will not because of political advantage betray the principles I believe in.”
The president insisted that the policy is a “matter of social justice”, which his government is convinced will “open more opportunities to the young ones who want to be trained as professional teachers and I stand by that principle”.
To reestablish his position on the allowance, President Mahama again tweeted on the issue on Thursday . “On the matter of trainee teacher allowances, better to lose on principle than win using falsehood. We’ll not reverse the decision”.
